Education Events are FREE to Autism Tennessee members; non-members pay $5/family at the door for workshops. Enrollment is limited; reservations are requested. Childcare is available with 48 hours advance notice. All community members are welcome!

Autism Orientations

Autism Tennessee’s Autism Orientations are two-hour informational sessions on autism and other pervasive developmental disorders conducted by an autism professional and a parent of a child with autism.  An autism professional will discuss evidence-based practices for treating autism and review commonly used terminology. A parent of a child with autism will share their story.

  • Who should attend? This orientation is for parents of both newly-diagnosed and previously-diagnosed children, grandparents, educators, psychologists, pediatricians and other medical professionals, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, early interventionists, other service providers, and anyone interested in learning more about autism spectrum disorders.
  • What will I learn? You will learn: Characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders; How autism affects behavior; Implications for learning and intervention; Definitions and applications for terms commonly used in discussions concerning autism Examples of evidenced-based interventions and how you can use them or request that they are used in your child’s education or therapy, and
  • A parent’s perspective on intervention and family support services in our community.
  • Is there a cost? No.  Both the session and childcare are FREE!

  • When are they? Orientations are quarterly, on a Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

Workshops

Register below. Autism Tennessee’s Workshops are monthly, two-hour presentations on a variety of topics of interest to the autism community and/or the disability community.   All interested community members are invited – and encouraged – to attend!

  • Is there a cost? Workshops are FREE for Autism Tennessee Members; Non-members pay $5 at the door.
  • How do I sign up? You may register by contacting Autism Tennessee at (615) 385-2077, ext. 1 for reservations and information or register online by clicking here.  Reservations are requested.
  • Is childcare available? Yes, free childcare is available with 48 hours advance request.  Space is limited; reservations are required. If you cancel within 24 hours of the event or do not show up, you will be charged $5 per child registered. If we are able to fill the spots with wait-listed children, you will not be charged.
  • When are they? Workshops are held monthly, on a Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

Adult Orientations

Register below. Autism Tennessee’s Adult Orientations are two-hour informational sessions about autism spectrum disorders conducted by an autism specialist and an adult with autism.

  • Who should attend? This Orientation is for adults who have a diagnosis of autism and those who suspect that they may have autism.  This Orientation is most helpful for individuals seeking resources and support in order to understand and manage their autism diagnosis as well as those who want to connect to others in the autism community.
  • What will I learn? You will… Learn the diagnostic characteristics of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and criteria for assessment; Discuss the difficulties associated with ASD; Gain an understanding of treatment options, effective strategies in self-advocacy, and how to create a support system; Hear success strategies from a peer with ASD
  • Is there a cost? No.  Both the session and childcare are FREE!
