Co-Presenter: Andrew Solomon
Director of Partners in Policymaking Leadership, TN Council on Developmental Disabilities

The Supporting Families of Individuals with Disabilities Community of Practice is a national initiative focused on developing best policies and practices to support families, including family members with a disability, across the lifespan. Tennessee is one of the now 17+ states participating in this national learning community and state activities are led by the TN Council on Developmental Disabilities and the TN Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

The guiding principles of this Supporting Families initiative are known as the LifeCourse Framework. The LifeCourse Toolkit was developed by families for families. These tools are meant to help families of all abilities and ages develop a vision for a good life, think about what they need to know and do, identify how to find or develop supports, and discover what it takes to live the lives they want to live. They provide a way for individuals, families, and professionals in a person’s life (teachers, support staff, etc.) to discuss and brainstorm about goals, current needs, life transitions and needed supports for the future.

Visit www.lifecoursetools.com to learn more and download the tools, and attend this workshop to receive an overview of the LifeCourse framework and practice using a few of the tools.
