Event Description:

The Spectrum Experience and Sex Education for Caregivers will provide an understanding of sex and safe sex. Talking about sex can be difficult for many parents and for families with adolescents with autism, talking about sex can be challenging especially if the individual has some developmental delays.
This workshop is intended for caregivers of teens and young adults on the spectrum. There will be a follow-up session in March specifically for teens and young adults that will be age appropriate.

Presented by: / Panelists:

Elisabeth Bradner, MPH, Director of Education, Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi, educates on a variety of sexuality topics. Using medically accurate information and a comprehensive approach, she aims to empower youth to make decisions in-line with their values and provide their caregivers the tools to be primary sex educators. She also provides trainings, equipping youth-serving professionals with the comfort and skills to engage sexuality topics to build participant confidence and reduce stigma.

Molly Rochelson (she/her) - As Peer Education Manager for Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi, Molly Rochelson (she/her) seeks to expand comprehensive sexuality education across the state by holding sexuality education sessions for various organizations around Knoxville, as well as by facilitating state-wide trainings for professionals to expand their comfort and competency in addressing sexuality-related issues. Additionally, Molly manages the youth development programs in Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis equipping participants with accurate sexual health information so that they may help empower other youth to make informed decisions aligned with their personal values.

Workshop Goal(s):

Participants will receive an understanding of the basics of consent,  learn how to set appropriate boundaries, and be taught more explicit instructions on the social norms that go along with dating for those who are beginning to explore romantic relationships.
